It's a swift return to the north-east for Arsenal, who had to settle for a draw against Newcastle at St James' in midweek.

Gareth Southgate will hope the leaders coming to town can galvanise his team in the same way it did Newcastle as Boro have slipped into the bottom three and the pressure is growing.

The hosts haven't won at the Riverside since Semptember 1 which is a massive concern although the recent history of this fixture offers them some hope.

The two drew 1-1 last season with the Gunners needing a 77th minute equaliser from Thierry Henry to rescue a point. And the season before, Boro ran out 2-1 winners after goals from Massimo Maccarone and Yegbeni Yakubu.

With Mathieu Flamini, Alex Hleb, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie still sidelined with injury, the Gunners could just be vulnerable again.

Boro's lack of a goalscorer dampens enthusiasm about a shock result but with key men missing Arsene Wenger's men look iffy betting material at 8/15. Probably a match to leave alone.

Verdict: Middlesbrough 1 Arsenal 1
