BURNLEY 3 MIDDLESBROUGH 1
ComeOnBoro.com MATCH REPORT

Boro were well beaten at Burnley last night, mainly due to our defensive deficiencies.

We are however, just two points away from safety being mathematically certain. Even if we lose our last four games, we'll stay up as four teams below us all need to win all their remaining matches. It should become a mathematical certainty on Saturday at Hull, even if we get beat.

Jay Rodriguez scored twice to put Burnley in the Championship play-off places and defender Michael Duff was allowed the freedom of Turf Moor to head home unopposed from a corner.

Rhys Williams' sweet strike from 18 yards rebounded off the inside of a post and was swept home left-footed by Andrew Taylor for a Boro consolation.

It's all about next season now and confidence is growing again. Steve Gibson breaking his silence was a massive thing and did us no end of good. The cynical among us may wish to suggest that the announcement was deliberatly times to coincide with the annual season ticket sales campaign. Maybe it was but let's just hope that campaign is successful for the sake of the club.

Tony held up his hands and conceded: "Tonight was a free shot at three points for them.

"They were always going to come at us strong at the start, but we weren't ready for it and that's the frustrating thing for me.

"It's an easy story to write - the team that wanted it more - but I'd like to think that's not the case.

"Two goals in as many minutes knocks the stuffing out of any team. That gave us a mountain to climb and it proved too much.

"The evidence was out there on the pitch."

Bring on next season. Tony stated earlier in the week that he is aiming for play-off spot at least. We are slowly but surely getting our Boro back.
