ENGLAND, ASTON VILLA AND TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR - CARSON EXPECTS ROBBO RECALL
Scott Carson expects Steve McClaren to recall Paul Robinson for England's final Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia.
The Liverpool goalkeeper, on a season-long loan at Aston Villa, made his first England start in Friday's 1-0 friendly victory in Austria.
And with McClaren's men being handed a qualification reprieve at the weekend and now needing just a point at home to Croatia to book their place in the Finals, Carson feels Robinson will be back in the starting XI.
He said: "I've played in big games before but I'm not thinking I'm going to be playing on Wednesday.
"I'll just see what happens. It's one game and one clean sheet for me so far so that's a good record.
"Would I be ready for Wednesday? I'm confident like I was on Friday.
"I think it would be the same on Wednesday but that's down to the manager. He hasn't said anything about it yet. I don't know what's happening."
Carson was happy to keep a clean sheet against a limited Austria attack and is keen to keep up the pressure on Robinson and earn further caps in the future.
He added: "Would I rather have had more to do? Not really, not on my debut. I just wanted to get out and play and avoid controversy. I'm just delighted to have got my first cap.
"It's whetted my appetite for international football. It has done ever since I've been in the squad. Hopefully, there will be a few more caps in the future.
"At the last get-together the manager said he was going to try and give me a go when the time is right. Obviously, with the situation we are in, I didn't think it would come this quick.
"But I'm very grateful for him giving me my chance and hopefully I have done okay for him."
