Reaction is pouring in from the bookies following Steve McClaren's departure as England coach and Jose Mourinho is into 5/2 from 4/1 with Skybet.

Alan Shearer is also being well supported, forcing Skybet to cut his odds of becoming head coach from 33/1 to 12/1.

Skybet's PR Director Dale Tempest said: "The phones are hot this morning with customers clamouring to back the 'Special One' for the job but we're also seeing plenty of early money for Alan Shearer, despite his lack of managerial experience."

William Hill have been forced to slash their odds for Jose Mourinho to become the next permanent England manager after an overnight gamble.

"Jose was the only man anyone wanted to back after the match - overnight and into Thursday over 80% of the bets we've taken have been for the former Chelsea boss," said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

William Hill have now made Mourinho 4/1 favourite to get the job - having quoted him at 10/1 when he left Chelsea and 11/2 prior to the England-Croatia match.

Victor Chandler report an interesting move for Terry Venables to take over as the new manager of the Republic of Ireland.

Venables was also relieved of his England duties this morning and the firm saw a run of money on him last night at 4/1 straight after England loss to Croatia.

Spokesman Neal Wilkins commented: "Our punters were quick to latch on to the fact that Venables would now be free to pursue other avenues in football and there was a lot of interest in him taking over the reins in Dublin. We had to cut him to 7/4 to stem the flow."
