Boro led Ipswich 3-1 five minutes into the second half but were pegged back to draw 3-3 in an enthralling clash at Portman Road.

Grant Leadbitter struck from distance inside the opening ten minutes to give Ipswich the lead but they capitulated either side of the break as Tony Mowbray's side overturned the lead thanks to Andy Halliday's tap-in and Scott McDonald's close-range finish before half-time, with Andrew Taylor adding a third soon after the break.

Connor Wickham, who had two efforts ruled out for offside, finally netted when he headed home from six yards to give Ipswich hope and they made sure of the point when Leadbitter scored his second from the penalty spot.

Despite losing the lead, this was a good return to Portman Road for Tony Mowbray, who spent five years there as a player. It was a point that puts very clear light between us and the drop zone and one more win out of the last six should see us absolutely sure of safety.

Tony was satisfied after the match and said: "I can only praise my players. Would I have taken a point before the game? Probably.

"Saturday's match was very intense and took a lot out of the team. We're very, very stretched at the moment but thankfully in the last four or five weeks we've managed to pick up some decent results.

"We're ticking along now and want to start looking upwards rather than over our shoulders. We want to finish as high as possible and start building momentum for next season.

"We tired at the death but great credit to Ipswich who refused to be beaten. There were six goals and there could easily have been twelve. Both teams are safe from relegation now and perhaps that's why they both went attacking."

On Andy Halliday, who scored one goal and made two, he added: "He did well and was a real goal threat. He's a very infectious boy.

"If some of our strikers had been fit he wouldn't have played tonight but he grabbed his opportunity with both hands."
