LIVERPOOL
0 MIDDLESBROUGH 0 - FIRST HALF REPORT
Andy Morgan
The big news coming out of Anfield was Gareth Southgate's
decision to start with the same back four that played against
Spurs last week.
This meant new signing Justin Hoyte was on the bench whilst
David Wheater started at right back. Andrew Taylor was on the
left with Robert Huth and Emmanuel Pogatetz in the centre.
Brad Jones was replaced by Ross Turnbull in goal after Jones was injured in training.
The midfield consisted of Gary O'Neil, Mohammed Shawky, Stewart
Downing and Jeremie Aliadiere whilst Afonso Alves and Tuncay
started in attack.
Turnbull, Wheater, Huth, Pogatetz, Taylor, Aliadiere,
O'Neil, Shawky, Downing, Alves, Tuncay, Jones, Hoyte,
Digard, Mido, Emnes, Johnson, Williams
THE FIRST HALF
The game began in a very lively manner, with shots being firing
in from either end. Liverpool tried to draw first blood though,
with Dirk Kuyt's twenty yard attempt being punched by Turnbull.
In the fourth minute Robbie Keane blasted a twenty yard shot
wide whilst at the other end, Shawky had a speculative effort
from thirty yards.
This didn't deter Liverpool as Yossi Benayoun attempted another
long-range effort a few minutes later. The right footed volley
was sent wide.
In the thirteenth minute Andrew Taylor almost broke the deadlock
with an excellent half volley. He forced Jose Reina into a
rasping fingertip save, tipping the ball over the bar. Nothing
resulted from the corner.
A great ball from Tuncay almost set Alves free in the nineteenth
minute but the linesman's flag was sluggish and the Brazilian
was narrowly flagged offside.
This signalled a period of significant Boro pressure as the
away side's movement was causing more problems in Liverpool's
rearguard than a dodgy kebab after ten pints of lager.
Liverpool danger was soon to follow though as they broke faster
than a group of scallies fleeing a council estate. Dirk Kuyt
was in a particularly dangerous position as the Reds took advantage
of Taylor's mis-positioning. Thankfully, the ref's whistle
saved the day.
Steven "Erm" Gerrard then got in on the act in the thirty-first
minute when his rasping drive drove itself narrowly wide. It
was a scare for the Boro though as the home side were starting
to exert their dominance on the game.
A few minutes later, Downing tried a shot from eighteen yards
which missed.
On thirty-six David Wheater was called into some excellent
defending to deny Fernando Torres a shot inside the Boro box.
Nothing resulted from the corner and from it, the Boro broke.
However, Liverpool won the ball back but Wheater managed to
flick the ball back to Turnbull after the Boro defender won
the ball back off Kuyt.
Liverpool's fluid movement almost undid the Boro once again
and once again Keane and Torres linked up adriotly. The Irishman
ghosted past two Boro players and squared the ball to Torres
who was central, fifteen yard out. Pogatetz deflected his side-footed
effort wide and nothing occurred from the corner.
A minute later, Torres darted down the left but his ball into
the box was too lethargic and Huth easily cleared.
On forty-three, Tuncay tried the acrobatic in the Liverpool
box, trying to take advantage of Liverpool's erratic defending.
Carragher and Skrtel managed to scramble a clearance.
Into stoppage time and Downing's shot went so wide it's not
worth writing about. Except I just did.
Very late in the half, Liverpool won a corner but it was so
dreadful that the Boro didn't need to even defend it.
And that was the last of the action as the Boro went into the
dressing room with a very creditable draw. If they come out
and attack some more then they could perhaps take advantage
of Liverpool's dodgy defending.

We guarantee this bet
It's understandable that some people will not believe that it is possible to do this. "What's the catch?" I hear you asking. My answer to that question is that this is the fifth season that we have been publishing arbitrage bets and literally hundreds of people have profited from following the advice on these pages.
Only twice has our refund guarantee been triggered and that was when we did all the figures wrong and sent refunds out to those who had followed our advice and made a small loss.
Our refund guarantee works like this. If this bet doesn't work like we say it will and you end up out of pocket, we will refund your losses. Simple as that.
That means that you simply cannot lose on this, whatever happens and even if we messed up the numbers.
The only stipulation here is that you must click on the links on this page to be eligible for the refund guarantee, not that you'll be needing to claim anyway. Just enjoy the profit and stay posted for many more of these throughout the season.
