TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v MIDDLESBROUGH - BETTING ZONE PREVIEW
The fans at White Hart Lane have been royally entertained this term, that's for sure, but while the club have a tradition of 'playing the right way' you can bet they'd trade in plenty of their goals up front for a defence that could keep them out.
The hosts have conceded 30 in 16 league games on home soil (that's worse than Derby), including four in their last outing here when Newcastle could easily have left with six or seven.
It therefore makes sense to follow Afonso Alves in this one. The former Heerenveen striker got off the mark with two goals against Manchester United last weekend, and they came after he was desperately unlucky not to find the net against Chelsea the previous week. As a team, Boro are also in good form - one defeat in five is a good return from a run which has included games against United, Chelsea and Arsenal.
The points gained in those games mean they are just five points behind Spurs in the table and they will surely create some chances against that shaky defence (once again without Ledley King). Alves at 3/1 looks the man to be on to score at some stage in this one.
Verdict: Tottenham 2 Middlesbrough 2
