SOUTHGATE WAITS ON TRIO
Middlesbrough trio Julio Arca, Tuncay Sanli and Mido were being assessed by the club's medical staff on Monday as manager Gareth Southgate waited to discover the extent of his injury crisis.
The three men reported to Boro's Rockliffe Park training headquarters on Monday morning after limping out of Saturday's 2-2 Barclays Premier League draw with derby rivals Sunderland at the Riverside Stadium.
Arca is perhaps the biggest concern after being carried from the touchline to the dressing room with suspected medial ligament damage to his knee.
However, Southgate will be presented with a major headache if strikers Tuncay and Mido are sidelined for any length of time, with Jeremie Aliadiere already out for a month with a hamstring strain.
Tuncay lasted just ten minutes after taking a kick on the shin, while Mido played on with a hamstring problem.
That means three of the club's four senior strikers are currently on the injury list 48 hours ahead of the Carling Cup third-round trip to Tottenham.
South Korea international Dong-Gook Lee is Boro's only fit frontman, and he has only one goal to his name since his arrival on Teesside in January.
That came in the 2-0 win over Northampton which earned Southgate's men their trip to White Hart Lane in the previous round.
