INTERVIEW WITH TALK LFC.com

Robbie Amins is the News Editor of Liverpool FC website, TalkLFC.com. We posed the following questions to him, just ahead of our forthcoming Carling Cup and Premier League double header.

Which players do you fear most in the Boro side?

None of em. Simply because it's not me going out onto the pitch. Seriously though, Hasselbaink is in very good form at the moment and you'll always worry about someone who is in that kind of mood.

Are you going for the Carling Cup this season or is just a side show?

I think the gaffer Rafa Benitez has identified the Carling Cup as an opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their talents. And this was evident by the way our team lined up in that tricky tie against Millwall. Of course you'll always like to win trophies no matter what Cup it is but it is important for the youngsters to get competitive first-team action. Playing that many youngsters in the first XI would be unthinkable under Gerard Houllier.

How high was the disappointment level when Michael Owen was sold to Madrid?

I for one was disappointed because if you look at it this way, he was not firing on all cylinders last season but still managed to be our top-scorer. If he had stayed and gave Rafa Benitez a chance and be part of what we are trying to do here at Anfield, I think he would have scored loads of goals this season and have something like one of his best seasons ever in a Red shirt. But despite the low fee, I think most fans would agree that we didn't want a McManaman situation to arise again. 8M pounds! What a steal! But 8M pounds (plus a player) is better than nothing.

Can Rafa restore the glory years?

Which Boro players would you like in the Liverpool team?

Stewart Downing. Talented left midfielder. For some strange reason he reminds me of Stephen Warnock. I'm a firm believer in giving your young players a chance and I'm hoping for more talents to break through in the Liverpool Academy. We haven't had an exciting one since the likes of Fowler, Owen and Gerrard came through.

Benitez or McClaren?

Benitez. Probably because McClaren has the words "Manchester United" on his CV. I really think Rafa Benitez is the man who can make us great again. We are already seeing the benefits of his training methods and already we are much happier than we were at this period of time last season.

Do you think that you will finish above us in the Premier League this season?

Yep. I don't think we'll win the title but we'll somehow clinch a Champions League place. Boro is a good side but to be honest I think you'll finish in a Uefa Cup spot.

What is your opinion of Everton's season so far?

Our good neighbours are doing great at the moment. But I think like two seasons back, David Moyes' side will lose their form soon enough and they'll finish just below a place for Europe.

Just so we know where we are...

Stewart Downing for England?

England obviously don't have many left-footed midfielders and even though I think he's not good enough at the moment, I think he'll make it one day. And that day is getting nearer and nearer.

Do you think that you can lift the Champions' League this season?

At the moment, I'll say No. But Rafa's high-tempo counter-attacking game suits the matches in the knockout stages and if we'll make it there, who knows what will happen.

Middlesbrough. Smog infested industrial trudgemill or vibrant happening place?

Who is he? Why does he need a treadmill? Oh! Hmmmmm... Vibrant happening smog infested industrial trudgemill.
