'Teesside Urban Legends', a unique book bursting full of Boro, banter, humour and nostalgia, is now on sale from book stores across Teesside.
Subtitled 'The Best of the Boro Message Boards', the 240-page A4 book is a compilation of the greatest threads on the message boards from the brilliant Fly Me to the Moon and ComeOnBoro.com websites.
A revealing, page-turning meander through the hearts and minds of Teessiders and Boro supporters, it is inspired by their contributions and posts on two of the country's most popular fan websites.
The book's foreword is provided by Boro captain Emanuel Pogatetz, who is also the subject of a chapter full of offbeat humour titled 'What Happened to Pogi's Head?'
'Teesside Urban Legends' allows readers to discover how, courtesy of a misunderstanding with the workings of the Transporter Bridge, comedian Terry Scott almost came to an untimely death in the murky depths of the River Tees.
They can read about long-lost tales from Teesside's industrial age of ICI and British Steel.
Was it really true that Alex Higgins and Charlie Kray were once regulars in the area?
And readers can pogo back in time to Middlesbrough's infamous Rock Garden as the likes of the Sex Pistols, The Damned, Adam and the Ants and Bad Manners rocked the Boro with gigs that have passed into folklore legend.
And do you remember the all-star cast of Teesside Urban Legends? Those name-checked within the book include the wonderfully named Salmonella Sam, Tommy the Hammer, Bob the Bucket, Chicken George, Hairy Mary, Penny Pick Nick, Eric the Wireless, Polpetti Man, the Helium Brothers, the Danimac Girls and Marty Farty Rubberlips.
And that's not forgetting Nipper Harris, Nit Noo, Wendy Woo, Mucky Maureen, Snotty Johnny, Andy X, Ernie Ragbo, Damage, Morbid and a whole host of never-to-be-forgotten Evening Gazette sellers!
Another chapter focuses on what contributors describe as "the enigma" of Allens West railway station on the Middlesbrough to Darlington line near Eaglescliffe.
And there's a feast of football and wit in chapters named Our Holgate End in the Sky, Gareth Southgate is Ignorant of Boro's Traditions, Call My (Boro) Bluff, Should Boro Rename the Stands, Best Ever Boro Away Games and the Most Bizarre Incident Ever at a Boro Match.
Steve Goldby, owner of the Fly Me to the Moon and ComeOnBoro.com websites, compiled the book with the sites' editors, Robert Nichols and Andrew Morgan.
Steve says of the book: "It's jam-packed full of wit and humour, knowledgeable insights, drunken late-night ramblings, myths, legends and emotional recollections of days long gone.
"We have wanted to make this book a reality for some time and we're confident it will appeal not only to those who use the message boards but the Teesside public generally. Readers can prepare to be entertained."
Priced £14.99, 'Teesside Urban Legends' is kindly sponsored by Middlesbrough's Hillstreet shopping centre and MSV's new Middlesbrough store.
It is available now on Teesside from WH Smith, HMV, Borders, the MFC Official club stores, Middlesbrough Railway Station, Guisborough Book Shop, Billingham Books, MSV, the Evening Gazette, Boro Programmes and Mohan's Bar.
